Flat and prewashed / crinkled options are available, with sterile or non-sterile packing and OEM private labels.

Choosing flat or prewashed abdominal gauze pads
Laparotomy sponges are multilayer woven gauze pads with sewn edges. Prewashed and unwashed constructions have different surface appearances; the crinkled option has a visibly textured gauze surface. Choose the washing status and finished size together when matching a sample or a purchasing specification.
A fabric loop and an X-ray detectable element serve different specification requirements. Loop color, washing status and sterile status are recorded separately. These abdominal gauze pads are distinct from non-woven ABD absorbent dressings.

Frequently asked questions
What are laparotomy sponges also called?
They are also called lap sponges, surgical lap pads or abdominal gauze pads. This product is a multilayer woven cotton gauze pad, distinct from a non-woven ABD absorbent dressing.
Which sizes and ply counts can I request?
Common square formats include 20 × 20, 30 × 30, 40 × 40 and 45 × 45 cm, with additional square and rectangular sizes listed above. Common ply choices are 4, 6, 8 and 12. Specify size, ply and mesh together; other combinations can be reviewed.
What is the difference between prewashed and unwashed lap sponges?
Prewashed sponges are washed during manufacture and may have a softer, crinkled gauze surface. Unwashed / non-prewashed options have not received that prewashing step. Washing can affect dimensions, so state whether your size requirement applies before or after washing.
Does a blue loop mean the pad is X-ray detectable?
Loop color alone does not confirm X-ray detectability. Specify the X-ray detectable thread or tape separately from the fabric loop and its color.
Are all laparotomy sponges supplied sterile?
No. Sterile and non-sterile supply are separate order options. A paper pouch or a prewashed finish does not by itself establish sterile status; the selected supply condition and packaging are confirmed with the order.
Can you customize the pack and private label?
